Office 2013 Offers Even More Anti-Hacker Features for Users

    softwaredepot.com

Microsoft Office 2013 has gotten an upgrade. It now allows users to block macros and malware selectively. Trojans and ransomware make their way onto computers due to malware-ridden documents. Office 2016 offers this feature, and Microsoft decided that it was valuable enough for them to offer In MS Office 2013.

    Allows Admins to Block Macros

If you happen to use or want to download Office and it’s an older version of the software, know that you’re protected. If you don’t want to open an attachment from an unknown sender, you can have the allowed admin block the macros. In order to make this happen, administrators use Microsoft Group Policy Templates for Office 2013.

Company admins are able to block documents downloaded from internet websites and from online storage providers such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. They can also block documents that were attached to emails and sent from outside the organization. This is through programs such as Outlook and Exchange.

Admins are also able to prevent documents from public sharing sites from being downloaded. This is, of course, if the websites in question are unfamiliar, known for viruses or don’t seem reputable in other ways. Microsoft states that to “block the macro, it blocks the threat.”

    Heed the Red Warning Message

A red message declaring the message blocked and unsafe pops up in Office 2016. You’ll now see the same warning in earlier 2013 Microsoft versions. Instead of giving people the option to enable macros, the company deemed it safer to block the content altogether.

This prevents nasty viruses from wreaking havoc on entire systems of computers.  If a virus was sent to everyone on a mailing list, they could potentially download it, and infect their hardware. Fortunately, companies can dictate when an exception can be made. Admins are responsible for this task because they’re well aware of the danger macros pose.

    Enable Macros for Trusted VBAs

Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to run on default must be signed by a developer. The signature used needs to be valid and current. This prevents VBA macros from getting into computer systems because they are permitted to do so. Enabling macros from a trusted source is possible by selecting the button reading ‘enable macros’.

Select Do Not Open or Disable Macros When Necessary

To avoid opening, the button reading ‘do not open’ is available. To disable macros, the button reading ‘disable macros’ is another possibility. This gives admins greater control over what content is allowed and what isn’t when downloading documents onto their computers.

Microsoft is a Company Committed to Excellence

Microsoft’s commitment to excellence shines in all that it does. By upgrading existing versions of its software such as Office 2013 Student or Office Professional Plus 2013, it gives users more flexibility. If they are accustomed to using one version of the software over another, they have access to newer features without having to learn newer versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Routine updates to software keeps it in top working order. That’s one of the advantages of buying, downloading, and using Word opposed to other software suites. Microsoft constantly improves existing software and releases new software so that you have many options for the communications you create.
